Whole new look for the Capri XR2 interior!

Gentle reader,

Thank you once again for visiting my blog. Those of you that do so repeatedly, must "get" me. My wife sure doesn't. Just kidding, Honey! She gets me all kinds of ways!

I saw an ad in one of my many car magazines for seat covers, starting at $149.99. They had NOTHING to fit my 1991 Mercury Capri XR2. Just 'cause it is an international hybrid of Ford and Mazda cars that was designed in Italy? C'mon, you see them all the time, right? Not really. One of the many reasons I love the car. I'm highly unlikely to see myself coming down the road.

is selling universal seat covers. I chose a set of red/black that included front and rear covers, five headrest covers and the rear bottom and back covers were so adaptable (by design) that I was able to make them fit perfectly.

Now, the photos below are after I have JUST finished installing them, so they still have wrinkles from being folded at the factory.

Normally, I see seat covers in a car and they look.....well, not good. Usually, they were cheap to buy and hastily installed by non-car-guy owners.

As I have been a professional mechanic for 40+ years, I know the right way to do this: Remove each seat from the vehicle and work on a good surface. In my case, the tailgate of my Ranger pickup.

The back seat covers come with two zip-out black panels. Also included are pieces than can be added in case you have a split folding or moveable rear seat(s). In my case, as the seat back is especially narrow, I removed both panels and zipped the two sides together. My seat back does fold down, but I almost never do so. The seat bottom cover is the same, so I again removed both black panels to narrow it. As you can see I got them almost exactly lined up. Since it's for my use and highly unlikely to be in a car show, I'm not worried that it isn't exactly lined up. Despite my OCD.

So now I don't have to look at the unexciting gray seats anymore. Yay!

Thanks for looking!

Scott
